In our ELA class, we start every day in “Book Talk”! Students gather together and discuss what’s going on in their books using reading strategies we learned in class. Book Talk helps students comprehend their books more and think deeper about the lessons they can learn through their stories using predictions, connections, visualizations and evaluations. Students can ask questions or make predictions and inferences, as well as clarify if things get confusing. On top of all that, Book Talk also helps provide accountability for students completing their reading goal of 3,000 pages read in a school year and gives a quick conference with a teacher to check for understanding. It’s our favorite part of our daily routine!
